Pass and collision protection for glass panes
The pass protection protects passers against unsecured windows and doors
In public windows, doors and partition systems made of glass may create a hazard for people if the glass surface is not sufficiently marked with a visual security marking (pass protection, impact protection) and passers run into such a unsecured glass surface.
Legal requirements govern the pass protection for windows and doors
According to the DIN standard 18040-2 for doors, windows doors must be clearly visible by contrast design, easy to open, close, and be secure to pass. At large glass doors security markings (pass protection, impact protection) have to be installed with change in contrast. Security markings on glass doors and large glazed areas can, for example, be made of 8 cm wide strips which are mounted at a height of 40-70 cm and 120-160 cm. See sample image. According to the workplace regulation and workplace directive which implements the DIN legally binding wings of doors and gates which consist of more than three quarters of their surface of transparent material have to be marked with security markings (pass protection, impact protection) in that way that they are clearly visible ar eye level also for employees with visual impairment, employees who use a wheelchair and for employees with short stature |

Construction authority approvals only if the pass protection is ensured
Contruction authority approvals only take place if the pass protection is ensured. New buildings open to the public for that reason only get the contruction authority approval if the glass elements are sufficiently marked with a pass protection as security markings according to the guidelines of the workplace regulation. The same applies to existing buildings which get renovated.
Liability for damages possible if no pass protection is installed
The not-installation can have liable consequences to pay damages for those who are responsible for the glass surface, eg the owner or tenant.
The Cologne Court has decided that in pedestrian areas doors, walls, fences made of glass or similar transparent material has to be arranged in that way that it can be detected in time. The installation of an adhesive strip in 1.55 m height is not enough because, for example, small people, especially children, are not effectively warned.
Long durability and warranty for the pass and impact protection
Based on years of experience a warranty of 5 years for peeling, yellowing of the pass protector is granted by the manufacturer for indoor instllation if the pass protection is properly installed and used.
