Wet installation: Recommended installation tools

Window films and many other self-adhesive films are installed using the wet installation method for optimal results. The use of distilled water and an installation fluid ensures that the film can be installed without bubbles.

Function: Every accessory serves its purpose

The glass cleaning concentrate is needed for surface cleaning. It ensures that the surface is free of dust, grease, oil and dirt. It is diluted with water. A glass cleaning scraper ensures the professional removal of stubborn dirt. In addition, we use our separating and lubricating agent as installation fluid, which is mixed with distilled water in a ratio of 1:5. The plastic squeegee allows you to wipe out the installation fluid and air bubbles. A sharp cutter knife can be helpful if you want to cut the film to size.

💡 Tip: It is best to use two spray bottles – one for the glass cleaning concentrate and one for the installation fluid. When installing large areas, a trim guide can be helpful for cutting the film along the glass frame.

DIY accessory set for small areas

For small areas up to 2 square meters, we recommend our DIY accessories set for EUR 2.90. It contains a plastic squeegee, a cutter knife and a bag of installation fluid, which is enough to install 2 square meters of film. The DIY accessories set is included free of charge with every order.

For areas larger than 2 square meters, we recommend ordering the tools individually from our product range.

💡 Tip: You can use the plastic squeegee not only to wipe out the installation fluid. It is also suitable as a glass cleaning scraper and as a squeegee for later cleaning of the film surface.

For a successful wet installation, it is best to have the following accessories ready before you start the application:

Dry installation: Neccessary installation tools

If you have decided on an adhesive foil that is suitable for dry application, the foil can be installed without water and installtion fluid due to the air channels and the microstructured adhesive.

Function: Every accessory serves its purpose

With the spray bottle and the glass cleaning concentrate mixed with water you can clean the surface which is to be coated with the new film. The glass cleaning scraper removes stubborn dirt such as color, resin or adhesive residue. You can squeeze out the foil with a felt squeegee and push out air bubbles. Last but not least, a sharp cutter knife or a trim guide will help if you want to cut the adhesive foil to millimeter-size before or after installing the foil.

Sealing: Extra protection for film edges

Additional protection is provided by sealing the film edges with a silicone seam along the window frame.

Protection against weather and mechanical damage

The lifespan of installed window films can be extended by sealing the film edges. A silicone seam along the window frame protects exposed film edges from the weather. Mechanical damage, which can be caused unintentionally during cleaning, can also be prevented in this way.

Laying the silicone seam with a cartridge gun

Professionally installed, the silicone seam is approx. 5 mm thick and connects the film to the window frame. We recommend using the OTTOSEAL silicone sealant S120 for all-round edge sealing. This is available in many attractive colors. For easy processing of the silicone, we recommend our cartridge gun for silicone cartridges.

Smoothing foam: Solution for wall & wallpaper

Self-adhesive films stick best to smooth surfaces. If the surface has a rough surface, such as woodchip wallpaper or a plastered wall, there is a risk that the film will fall off again. You can easily avoid this by turning the rough surface into a smooth surface with smoothing foam. Once you have finished installing the wall mounting, the smoothed surface can be covered with the self-adhesive film as planned.

💡 Tip: Simply cut the smoothing foam with scissors and adapt it flexibly to the available wall or wallpaper space. If you wish, we can also make the cutting for you, simply specify the desired size when ordering!
