Safety films: Glass splinter & break-in protection
We work every day to ensure that you get exactly the safety film that makes your environment safer. The high-quality security for passers-by, buildings and objects is our top priority. Compliance with the strict ISO 9001 quality assurance standards guarantees the best manufacture quality. The security films have been tested by recognized institutes, including TÜV and MPA, and the conformity of the relevant EU standards has been confirmed by VdS Schadensverhütung. Against which dangers VON KUESTER KG safety coatings protect you can read here:
Splinter protection in case of glass breaks and flying fragments
Safety films prevent damage to people and objects from flying glass fragments if glass breaks. At home, in the office, in kindergartens, schools, universities or hospitals, the splinter protection film with resistance class 2B2 according to EN 12600: 2000 protects passers-by from bodily injuries caused by flying glass (model 400). In case of explosions, natural disasters, greater violence, security films with resistance grade 1B1 according to EN 12600: 2000 (model 700) or A1 according to DIN 52 290, P2A according to DIN EN 356 (Model 1200) and P3A according to DIN EN 356 A (Model 1500) increase protection against serious damage.
Burglary, explosions, terror – P2A burglar protection according to DIN EN 356
Wherever there are window panes, glass facades or shop windows in buildings, the multilayer anti-burglary film, which adheres strongly to the glass surface, secures possession and property. The risk of break-in, robbery and theft is minimized as it is almost impossible to smash the pane of glass. Clear anti-burglary protection films with resistance grade 1B1 according to EN 12600: 2000 (model A7) and security level A1 according to DIN 52 290, P2A according to DIN EN 356 (model A12) and P3A according to DIN EN 356 A (model A15) increase the security level of glass panes many times over. In the event of a detonation, shattered glass is bound and held together – the fire-induced shattering of glass is delayed.
Effective protection against scratches and property damage
The scratch protection film protects valuable surfaces such as glass, mirrors, marble and stainless steel from unintentional and willful scratches and damage to property. In shopping centers, pedestrian arcades, train stations, airports and bus stops, the particularly resistant film is difficult to prevent Damage from willful scratches and graffiti. After the attack, the self-adhesive high-performance film is peeled off and simply replaced with a new protective film.
Safety film against graffiti and smearings
The anti-graffiti coating protects glass, mirrors, marble and stainless steel from graffiti, smearings and spray attacks. Most paints, sprays and pens can be easily wiped off with common detergents. Etched or scratched foils can be easily removed and inexpensively replaced with new foils. Places of use are valuable surfaces in shopping malls, pedestrian passages, train stations, airports and bus stops.
The above-mentioned security films for windows and panes of glass meet, among other things, the requirements for splinter-binding or impact-resistant glazing according to DIN EN 356, DIN 52290 and EN 12600: 2000. The product quality of the safety coatings thus meets internationally recognized standards.
Function: Windows become much more resistant
The tear-resistant splinter protection coatings are permanently on the glass pane after installation. They increase the resistance value of window panes many times over. The glass safety is thus sustainably improved.
Effect: Splinter binding, impact and explosion resistance
The tested security films have a multi-layer structure and are strongly self-adhesive on the glass pane. Once applied to the glass pane, the high-performance coatings have the following properties – depending on the respective resistance class:
- Splinter binding: If the glass breaks, glass splinters stick to the film and are not whirled through the air. The splinter-binding effect prevents damage and injuries in the event of glass breakage (all films with resistance class 1B1, 2B2, A1, P2A or P3A).
- Impact resistance: In the event of force, the impact energy is absorbed by the protective glass film. The impact-resistant effect makes it difficult for the pane to be smashed or thrown through (all foils with resistance class 1B1, A1 and P2A or P3A).
- Explosion resistance: In the event of detonations, shattered glass is bound and held together. Physical injuries and property damage can be effectively prevented with this anti-explosion effect (all A1 and P2A or P3A foils).
Security foils with practical additional functions
The window protection films in the standard version are characterized by high transparency and clarity. Once applied to the window panes, they can hardly be seen in the crystal-clear version. Practical additional functions bring further advantages: tinted safety films with a combined sun control function improve living comfort and room climate. If splinter protection on windows and panes of glass is to be combined with privacy and discretion, a frosted glass white security film or anti-burglary film is an ideal solution. These coatings offer excellent opportunities to not only make glass and windows in buildings and rooms safer, but also to make them exclusive.
Fire behavior: flame retardant in case of fire
In the case of fire, the fire-induced shattering of glass because of strong heat generation is delayed. The Material Testing Office of North Rhine-Westphalia (TÜV) has classified the fire behavior of the security films according to DIN EN 13501 with B-s1, d0 as flame retardant : The tested material was classified as B for its fire behavior, the additional classification with regard to smoke development fulfills s1, the additional classification for burning droplets fulfills d0.
💡 Tip: A UV filter, which is integrated in the adhesive layer, ensures that the window films do not yellow even after many years of use. The UV resistance also prevents furniture and exhibited goods from fading prematurely.
Knowing where: The right place for your security film
The foils can be retrofitted on all smooth surfaces. Splinter and burglary protection films are applied to window panes on the room side. They are particularly suitable for smooth glass surfaces in the bathroom, bedroom or study. Passage doors, patio doors or display doors can also be made more secure with the self-adhesive P2A anti-burglary coatings. This also applies to laying on door inserts. The high-performance films are completely inconspicuous in the crystal-clear design and let in a lot of daylight.
For severely endangered glass panes, splinter protection films can also be attached to the outside in addition to being glued on the inside. Safety coatings that can be installed outside on roof glazing can also provide a remedy: In the event of glass breakage, they prevent water from entering the interior of the room in the event of hail damage. Graffiti foils and anti-scratch foils are also intended for external stickers. Because the weather-resistant security films are particularly suitable for protecting against damage in the open air.
Installation: Correct installation of safety films
The security films are self-adhesive and can be installed in just a few steps. They are extremely scratch-resistant and can be easily cleaned with conventional glass cleaning agents. Due to their high-quality workmanship, they have a long service life. In the following you can read how the installation is done step by step and what has to be considered.
Installation of security foils using the wet adhesive method
The self-adhesive foils are attached using the so-called wet adhesive process: Thoroughly clean the surface to be glued and spray it with some installation liquid (release agent and lubricant). Peel off the protective foil on the back of the flat glass film and also spray the adhesive side with installation liquid. Then apply and position the wet film on the wet window pane. Then squeeze everything with a squeegee from the center to the edges bubble free, and wipe it dry, done. Any white discoloration of the adhesive disappears within a few days after it is completely dry.
💡 Tip: With thick safety films, it is often not possible to cut the film to size on the glass. We therefore recommend that you cut the coatings to the exact window size before it is applied. We would be happy to do the cutting for you.
Connection of the safety films to the window frame
In the case of anti-burglary films, we recommend connecting the film to the window frame. The connection ensures high resistance: the security film – depending on the type of window – is either laid under the glazing bead or a special sealing is carried out. For this purpose, the film is installed next to the window frame and then a silicone border is applied. The scratch-resistant surface of the safety film can be cleaned with conventional glass cleaning agents.
If carried out professionally, the installation of security films is quick, clean and quiet. Detailed installation instructions for the safety film are included with every delivery free of charge. Our installation service for window films is happy to provide you with a professional installation on site.
Care tips: This is how safety foils last a long time
The quality of the self-adhesive protective films is our top priority. We stand for this with a manufacturer’s guarantee of 10 years for interior foils and up to 5 years for exterior foils. You can read here how the slides last particularly long:
- Surfaces with a safety coating should always be cleaned with water. Small particles can cause scratches when cleaning with a dry cloth.
- Aggressive cleaning agents that contain abrasive particles should not be used. A mild detergent or conventional glass cleaner is better.
- So cleaning is best done with plenty of water. A rubber squeegee and the commercially available glass cleaning agents are suitable aids.
- The best results are achieved when washing from the center to the edge of the coating. This is ideal to wash out excess water or dirt.
- In order to maintain the clarity of outdoor window films, we recommend doing the cleaning described above 3-4 times a year.
💡 Tip: For external foils, the sealing of the foil edges along the window frame with an approx. 5 mm thick silicone seam protects the foil edges against external weather conditions.
Summary: Safety films are splinter & break-in protection
Security films improve the security of window panes and valuable surfaces. We have summarized all the advantages of the security film here:
Summary: All advantages at a glance
- Security window coatings increase the resistance value of the coated surface many times over. As splinter protection for windows and flat glass, they protect property and the physical integrity agianst broken glass panes.
- As a high-performance burglar protection, they prevent (spontaneous) break-ins, theft and vandalism. In the event of terrorist attacks, detonations and explosions, shattered glass is bound to the film and held together by it.
- With a scratch protection function, glass, mirrors, marble or stainless steel remain intact when subjected to violence. Surfaces are protected from signs of use. Smears and colors can simply be wiped off on anti-graffiti films.
- An integrated UV absorber protects against aggressive UV radiation and premature bleaching of furniture, pictures and carpets. Practical additional functions optionally provide additional privacy-, glare- and sun control.
- Depending on the model selected, the self-adhesive high-performance foils can be applied inside or outside. The installation is done in a few steps using the wet installation process using easy-to-understand instructions.
